Situated on a beautiful hillside location in Newport, The Celtic Manor is one of Wales’ leading 5 star hotels.
This property covers 2,000 acres, has four hotels and has not 1, not 2, but three world-class championship courses along with a top class golf academy, floodlit driving range and two luxurious golf clubhouses.
The resort is just a half an hour’s drive away from the Cardiff City Centre which makes for a pretty good night out. If you fancy getting away from the resort and exploring for the day there is plenty to see there. I would recommend a visit to the castle for sure.
Being a keen golfer myself, Celtic Manor has been on my list for a while and It certainly lived up to my expectations.
My stay was based on a 2 Night, 3 Round package as I wanted to make the most of my time there and play all three courses.
We played the Roman Road first which has some seemingly long and open fairways, it's not a huge course but some of the holes will require a pretty sizeable drive!
Day 2 we tackled the Montgomerie which was a lot of fun, especially if you're playing competitively. It's a hilly course with some very interesting par 3's and most of us preferred this course to the Roman Road.
Day 3, bring on the Ryder Cup course! The 2010 was a solid way to round off 3 well deserved days away for our group and at 7,493 yards it's fair to say we were all looking forward to a nice cold pint after the 18t. So it's a good job this course has it's own clubhouse serving decent beers.
Evenings are definitely something to look forward to at Celtic. They have 4 bars, several restaurants and a good variety of options for food. We had a casual meal in the bar on the day of arrival, fine dining on day 2, followed by a lovely roast dinner on the Sunday after our round.
Overall this venue is ticking all the boxes for me. If you're looking for a golf break at a resort that offers the full package, 3 courses and great value for money.. I would highly recommend Celtic!
