Ireland
During a professional career that started in 1970, christy o'connor jnr has won over a dozen titles and led ireland in several tournaments (including the world cup, dunhill cup, and ryder cup). Christy now focuses his golfing skills on golf course construction, and he has established a reputation as one of the best designers in the world, with more than 30 courses to his credit in ireland and europe.
Knightsbrook, in county meath, is the most recent addition to an remarkable o'connor collection that includes headfort, rathsallagh, and the pga national. The restaurant first opened its doors in 2006. Knightsbrook has been compared to many of the more well-known irish parkland courses in and around dublin in terms of consistency and style.
The course is part of a 186-acre complex that includes a hotel, private homes, fitness club, and spa – all of which tend to be required features when building a championship golf course in ireland nowadays! Greens have been built to usga standards, and nine ponds have been designed at half of the holes on the card to create visual appeal (and an aspect of danger).
The level three holes appear at the beginning and end of the course. From the back tees, holes 3 and 5 are 180 yards and 193 yards respectively, with the latter requiring water to be transported all the way. After that, ten par four or five holes are played before the 182-yard 16th hole, which is the next short hole. The 18th hole is a par three where water must be brought all the way to a stone fronted putting surface covered by a pair of bunkers in front of the tee.
