Donald soffer, a real estate entrepreneur, had a vision in the late 1960s of transforming a swampy 750-acre tract of land in north miami beach into an upmarket luxury estate with golf as its sporting centerpiece.
To do this, robert trent jones snr was employed to turn a large portion of the property into a 36-hole golf complex, and the soffer and miller 18-hole courses opened in 1971.
In 2006, both models were updated, with ray floyd working as the lead artist. The soffer is the venue's tournament course, and it's 600 yards longer than the miller. it's also the more powerful of the two formats, having hosted many lpga tournaments in recent years.
Broad back-to-back par fours at 4 and 5, as well as solid par fives at the 2nd and lake-protected 6th, highlight the front nine. The closing holes on the back nine have more water, ending at the 571-yard 18th, where an island green is backed by a massive waterfall.
