Sea Island (Seaside)

Sea island was once dubbed the "no. 1 golf resort in north america" by golf digest. Sea island is one of those resorts that absolutely cannot be missed, with luxurious accommodations and a plethora of leisure amenities, including two public golf courses (seaside and plantation).

C.h. smith designed the seaside course in the late 1920s. Alison of the popular english couple colt and alison. The current 18 holes are made up of a front nine designed by joe lee in the 1970s and a back nine that was built from the ground up, with both loops redesigned by tom fazio in 1999.

The 421-yard 4th is a truly unique hole, requiring a forced carry across wetlands to a fairway that then takes a drastic ninety-degree turn left into a green on the opposite side of marshland. Golfers who play too conservatively away from danger on the left will be disciplined for their lack of skill, due to bunkers on the right side of the fairway.

The original seaside nine was formed by dredging and flooding the tidal marshes at the mouth of the brunswick river to create several islands of golf, linked by bridges,âĢĿ according to tom doak in the confidential guide to golf courses. It's only fitting that tom fazio revised the course because it's precisely the kind of ambitious project he'd create today if they'd let him. The bold carries on alison's old 4th and 7th holes have been restored, whilst the marshside nine, alison's weaker sibling, has been thoroughly revamped to suit the modern style.âĢĿ
