Monterey Peninsula (Shore)

USA

while pebble beach evokes memories in the imagination, we believe that few people are aware of the private monterey peninsula country club, which is very close to 17-mile drive. The monterey peninsula country club has two courses: dunes and beach. The dunes course was once the preferred choice, but those in the know now believe the shore course to be the superior alternative.

The shore course, which was designed by bob baldock in 1962 and hosted the bing crosby pro-am in 1965 and 1966, has always been a strong track, ranked 13th in california state in golf digest's 1997-98 rankings. However, that was before mike strantz was hired to rebuild the course. The 18 holes were rerouted, along with the most extensive destruction of non-indigenous plants ever seen on the west coast.

The strantz reconstruction was completed in 2004, with the end result being described as "as close to pure artistry as he ever accomplished on a golf course." The fairways pitch and roll like a real seaside links, but it's the way the course blends into the topography that makes it truly beautiful. This is golf in its purest form, and it may be the finest architectural farewell.

The shore style was reintroduced to the at&t pebble beach national pro-am (the heir to the bing crosby pro-am) in 2010, and has since become a staple of many tour participants.
