The ginn, once known as ocean hammock golf club, seems to have been transformed and scrapped in another re-branding effort by hammock beach resort, but it is still the only beachfront property on the atlantic coast a few miles south of historic st augustine.

Amid florida's more than 1,000 miles of coastline, oceanfront holes are in short supply, but they "dream bigger" in this neck of the woods, and the jack nicklaus-designed signature hammock beach ocean course has been highly praised since it opened its five tees for play in 2000.

In a country where the very best courses are strictly reserved for club membership and their fortunate friends, great golf courses "that you can enjoy" are always good. The 7,201-yard ocean course at hammock beach has risen in popularity since bernhard langer – with his son stefan on the pack – captured the ginn championship on jack's ocean course in 2008. Before the promoters pulled the plug on the budding competition, keith fergus won the inaugural 2007 event.

The ocean course at hammock beach has a decent reputation, with six holes that play near to the atlantic ocean's shore. The closing four holes, dubbed "bear claw," signal the start of a challenging ocean course climax, particularly in a freshening breeze.
