Dale Hill (Woosnam)

England

Former ryder cup captain ian woosnam obe needs no introduction, and dale hill golf club, which woosie founded, is tucked away in the east sussex countryside a few miles south west of tunbridge wells. This is his first architectural ensemble, and it's completely in harmony and beautifully designed (with a little support from european golf design). The par 72, 6,512-yard course was built in 1997 and flows gracefully across the ridges of the high weald, perhaps evoking the hills of woosie's native shropshire.

The ian woosnam course is the better of two courses linked to the dale hill hotel, a new and practical four-star complex; the other is known as dale hill old. Dale hill is managed by leaderboard golf limited, which also manages the oxfordshire golf club near thame and sandford springs golf club in hampshire.

Dale hill is located between the north and south downs chalk escarpments and is largely built on clay-based soil.
